Page Deletion Issue[edit]

'This page has been deleted, and should not be re-created without a good reason.'
Why? This is a legitimate organization. Austinfidel) — Preceding undated comment added 05:19, 28 May 2006
- According to Bluemoose, it was the quality of the article (original content?) at issue.[1] Note that I've recreated the article from scratch (not having seen the deleted one). Feel free to edit. --Cowb0y 00:43, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Why Gay Rodeo?[edit]
John Wayne is rollin over in his grave if gays dont want to be made fun of why have they own rodeo? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.110.168.91 (talk • contribs) 20:23, 29 September 2006 --Posted by AC
Regarding John Wayne: unlikely, but beside the point. The point of 'gay rodeo' versus 'straight rodeo' is multi-fold: to provide a sporting/event environment which is free of prejudice and stereotypical 'norms', where the competitors and spectators are free to be themselves, enjoy themselves, and compete as equals without feeling the need to conform to others' expectations about what 'real [men/women/cowboys/cowgirls/etc.]' should act/look like.
In addition, there are aspects of gay rodeo which are unique and uniquely entertaining, as well as representing a genuine spirit of community and emphasis on fund-raising and charity which draw in a 'crowd' very different from a traditional amateur rodeo, thus increasing the support base for rodeo in general. There is plenty of room in the sport for all its different forms. C.f. Indian Rodeo. --Cowb0y 03:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
POV pushing[edit]
I've replaced the original name of a reference which was 'Mercy for Animals'. It seems to me to be the most ridiculous sort of POV-pushing to alter reference names to fit the editor's POV. These names are not even seen by readers and are only used to simplify the repeated use of a citation by giving it a label - and obviously should not be changed at a whim as it could break the re-use of a citation.
Secondly I've restored the phrase 'Animal rights organizations' in place of 'Animal advocates' (whatever they may be), because the source cited begins
'An animal-rights organization founded and headed by a gay man is calling on .... We must follow the way that our sources describe the groups, not invent something that has no currency in the works we cite. --RexxS (talk) 03:27, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
I've made some adjustments in the text you changed as well because they are not neutral and are expressing and opinion - yours. Try to leave your opinions at the door. We all have opinions but we just can't allow then to creep into encyclopedic content. We cannot try to to convince the reader of anything, but we just give them information and allow them to decide for themselves what position they want to take. I suspect you are passionate about some issues on rodeo, which I can understand, but this isn't were those issues can be dealt with. Make sure to discuss any further changes any of us wants to make on the talk page since this article has now become contentious.
- Forms 990 filed with the IRS by IGRA and its chapters provide public information about their charitable donations.
Not sure what this is. It seems a reference to a source in order to make a point. Further the source is not named and it would be a primary source anyway. There's no reason for this content actually; its non encyclopedic.
- I've removed 'claims' for the more neutral 'says'. See WP:CLAIM. Claims implies a lack of credibility which is not neutral. Its not up to editors to introduce content that questions credibility.
- 'Some' is vague. We can money which readers understand does not necessarily mean all of the money.(Littleolive oil (talk) 19:20, 26 August 2014 (UTC))
Sources lead paragraph above[edit]
I've checked sources and so adjusted the above discussed paragraph to both reflect those sources and to revert to a paragraph that was closer to the sources than what was in place today. However, the article needs sources/reference added on this content, unless I'm missing it. I'm done WP for today but will add content and sources in the next few days.(Littleolive oil (talk) 20:41, 26 August 2014 (UTC))
